February 2009

If you have little kids, you won’t want to miss this!

One of the most celebrated events in Elver Park is the massive easter egg hunt with the Easter bunny and other fun! I have contacted the sponsor of the event, West Madison Jaycees, to confirm this year’s date and time – April 4th at 11 AM.

One of the great things about our new website format is the ability for you, the reader and neighborhood resident, to get updates sent TO YOU immediately!

Every time a new item is posted here on the homepage, you can get updated via email or RSS, whatever your prefer. For example, if you subscribe via email, every time we post a news item here on the website, you will immediately get an email with that information. This saves you time by not having to visit often to check for new information and you are notified right away!

How do you subscribe? Just look in the right margin under “Get News Updates” and click your preference.

Wait, are you still puzzling over what RSS is? Not just tech savvy youngsters use it. It’s a great way to keep tabs on all your favorite websites in one place – making the content come to you! Personally, I use Google Reader and recommend it for its ease of use and functionality.

Here is a great video explanation of what RSS is if you are curious:

Not to worry – if you are new to RSS, you can always just subscribe to our email updates.

Tonight, we flipped the switch on a new design of the Prairie Hills Neighborhood Association website. With this new format, we will be able to post news more regularly online – enabling us to get the information to you, the residents much sooner!

Thus, we will only have a printed edition of our newsletter once a year in July. We are excited about the change and many more exciting things are coming online. Also, since the website is now in a “blog” format, the most recent news will be posted at the top here and also allow you to comment on stories/news. We hope you visit us more often and let us know your thoughts on the news here and in our members-only forum. Enjoy!

yardsign1Our popular yard signs are still available. Help spread the word about the association by putting a yard sign in your lawn. Email info@prairiehillsna.org to request your sign.

One side says “Get Involved in Your Community” and the other reads “Join the Prairie Hills Neighborhood Association” – both sides have our web address at the bottom.

Where did they come from you ask? In the summer of 2007, the Prairie Hills Neighborhood Association received a $500 grant from the SW Planning Committee to help spread the word about the association. The signs were designed by Nicky & Christopher Morris and printed by FASTSIGNS in Madison.

“Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

- Margaret Mead

The association has pictures from last year’s 4th of July Parade and Halloween party online at Flickr. Both are available here.

Enjoy!
