Elver Park Winter Facilities Now Open

The ice skating rinks, both Hockey and General are open.  The lights will be on at the rinks and the Elver Park Shelter with concessions/rentals is now open.  For info on times, go to http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/facilities/iceRinks.cfm
Ice Skating Lessons.  Registration is now open!  Madison Parks is offering ice skating lessons at Elver and Tenney Parks beginning in the week of January 6. (weather permitting)  Don’t wait!  Sign up today! http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/seasonal/winter/IceSkatingLessons.cfm
 
Sledding Hills.  Madison Parks staff made more snow for the Elver Park sledding hill last week.  Warming shelter is open. Remember, sledding is at your own risk, exit the bottom of the hill and walk up the sides of the hill. http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/facilities/sleddingHills.cfm
 
Cross-Country Ski Trails.  For now all of the cross-country ski trails are closed.    For more information on Madison Parks ski trails, visit: http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/facilities/skiTrails.cfm
Snowshoeing.  For a list of parks to snowshoe in:  http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/snowshoeing/    Remember, snowshoers must stay on the conservation park trails; snowshoes are not allowed on cross country ski trails at anytime. Madison Parks does not rent snowshoes.

Verona Road Construction.  Open house meeting to discuss next year’s construction work and traffic impacts on Verona Road, from the beltline to Raymond Road and surrounding areas.  Construction is scheduled to start in March 2014.  Meeting at City of fitchburg Fire Station No. 2 (5415 King James Way, Fitchburg) View the Verona Road reconstruction schedule (2014-1016).

Plants of the Dinosaur Age exhibit at Olbrich Botanical Gardens.

Open daily, November 2 through March 2. Step inside the Conservatory and travel back in time 250 million years to see the plants dinosaurs actually ate. See modern versions of those plants in person, along with fossils from the  Dinosaur Age. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is $2 for the general public, and free to Olbrich Botanical Society members. Children ages 5 and under are free. Admission is free on Wednesdays  and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon.
