Christmas Tree Collection Begins on Monday, January 6  Starting Monday January 6, 2014 the Streets Division will begin collecting Christmas trees. Most trees will be processed at the curb with on-street chippers. Trees placed out on these days will be collected sometime during the two-week cycle, WEATHER PERMITTING. Snow and ice control will take priority.
Recycling Your Cooking Oil and Holiday Lights  Madison residents who wish to recycle their cooking oil and holiday lights must bring them to one of two Streets Division drop off sites. The sites are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd. on the west side and 4602 Sycamore Ave. on the east side.
Report Water Main Breaks If you notice water bubbling up through a crack in the street, or even a large standing puddle of water that would normally be frozen in these single-digit temps, it could be a main break. Contact Water Utility’s Main Break Hotline at (608) 266-4661.
The Madison Parks Foundation received a $50,000 grant award from the Evjue Foundation, Inc., the charitable arm of The Capital Times, for the construction of splash parks at Reindahl and Elver Parks. The splash park at Elver is slated for completion August 2014.

Stargazing in Madison Parks.

Madison Parks and the  UW Space Place are offering a stargazing program at Odana Hills Golf Course (4635 Odana Road). UW Space Place will lead a session that begins just after sunset with a 20-30 minute talk and slide show about astronomy. If the sky is clear, they will set up one of the moderate aperture (8″-10″) telescopes and provide park visitors the opportunity to view whatever astronomical objects are available. All ages welcome.
