On Thursday, June 23, a grand opening celebration was held for the new Theresa Terrace Neighborhood Center. More than three years ago, residents of the Hammersley/Theresa Neighborhood began a campaign to create a neighborhood center to provide activities for children and resources for adults.

The grand opening was attended by Alder Matt Phair (who was a driving force for the creation of the center), Mayor Paul Soglin, Superintendent of Schools Jennifer Cheatham, neighborhood leaders, many volunteers and engaged neighbors. It was a community event, featuring a tour of the center and family activities, including a cook-out, face-painting, balloon animals, and outdoor games and activities.

The center is in the process of acquiring furniture, hirings staff and getting ready for full use. The children’s programming has already begun with activities being held at Falk and Jefferson schools.
